Summer Tour 2018 at Barrington Farm
Barrington Farm is a day services centre for adults with learning difficulties. The Art Barn is a fully equipped centre which specialises in enabling people of all abilities to express themselves and find a voice through their creativity. This unique studio offers a wide range of media associated with the visual arts and is staffed by practising artists.
We set up in the beautiful open space barn next to the working studio space. We put up the large landscape paintings as backdrops and set up a dressing up area in the corner, putting easels and chairs in a half circle round the room. Putinca the drag Queen posed and danced, and got everyone in a jolly mood for painting.
We did some quick paintings of the scene while the art barn artists came through from there studio to join in. Once everyone was set up we went round and talked to everyone working about them and their work. The art barn artists are accomplished artists so they also joined in giving advice to other artists.
As the work was made we took the paintings outside to hang in an open air gallery for the day and let the hot sun dry the work. At lunch time we all ate together and talked about art with the residence artists. After lunch the work really started to develop. The resident support workers were happy to see the art residence take on new ways of working and overcoming previous physical and mental barriers. At the end of the day Putinca graced us with Russian dancing and we all packed up the van for next part in the tour.
You can find images of the event in the gallery.
